Inside the Studio: The Art & Inspiration of Ashley Kay

Hello! I’m Ashley Kay – a freelance artist, colour enthusiast, and lifelong creative based in Norwich, UK. My work is a playful celebration of pattern, texture, food, interiors, and the beautiful dance between the manmade and the natural world.

Every piece I create is inspired by the things that spark joy in everyday life – think sunlit reflections on a café table, the curve of a ripe fig, the joyful mess of paint on a palette, or the bold patterns found in vintage textiles and tiled floors. I’m endlessly fascinated by how colour and form interact – whether it’s through a perfectly imperfect tomato or a glimmer of light on water.

Working primarily in gouache, acrylic, and oil, my original artworks are full of movement, mood, and a little bit of magic. I lean into the tactile process of painting and let my intuition lead the way, capturing fleeting moments and turning them into lasting pieces of art.

With a background in beauty, fashion and interiors – and a love for all things nostalgic and nourishing – my creative world is a melting pot of colourful chaos, considered design, and pure artistic instinct.
